Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to express my gratitude for the opportunity you have given me to work as a Sales Executive in your company. However, I regret to inform you that I cannot join on 10th July as we agreed in the interview.

The reason why I need to delay my start date is that I got injured yesterday while playing football with friends. I severely sprained my ankle and the doctor advised me not to walk for the next week, so it will be practically impossible for me to start working as previously planned.

It would be appreciated that you could kindly postpone my date of joining for 10 days, which is on 21th July. I am keen to join your company and would love to work under your supervision.

I sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. I would like to know whether there are any tasks that I can complete off site and please let me keep updated with the project I was supposed to participate in.
