Id like to talk about an interesting event that captivated the public in China.

I saw it on Weibo, a popular social media in this country, where you can read news in different areas. One day in early June, when I was just checking whether there was anything new in this app after dinner, the trending topic poped up and immediately attracted my attention. It was about a herd of 15 Asian elephants who had roamed 300 miles across southern China, which is quite unusual.

The news says that these elephants have been on their way for more than a year, traveling more than 300 miles through villages and forest patches. They set out in spring last year from the southwest corner of Yunnan province, and are reaching Kunming, the captial city located in the center of the province. In oder to ensure the safety of residents living along the route, local officials have scrambled to draw up plans to prevent accidents that can be caused by elephants. They have been tracking the elephants movements by drone and dispatched hundreds of workers to evacuate residents, set up emergency barriers and reserve tons of food.

There were also plenty of pictures and videos about the herd and some of them are quite lovely. You can see these huge animals sleeping, eating, bathing and walking in the town! Its just so unbelievable! The report also says that at least one elehphant got drunk after eating some grains left over from fermentation. Ive never heard something like that before!

More interestingly, no one knows why these elephants are moving. Maybe theyre looking for better food. Maybe theyve gotten lost. Maybe theyre just adventurous and having a good time. I believe that they will be well-protected and I hope theyll reach their destination safely.
