01. What are the differences between travelling by a private car and by public transport?

Taking myself as an example, if I need to visit a city far away from my city, Id like to choose public transport like a train or an airplane. For me, long distance driving is always tiring and exhausting. Sometimes, its a little unsafe. Taking a public transport, I feel at ease. Also, the high-speed trains and planes are much faster than private cars. On the other hand when I arrive in the destination, I will rent a car since the car company often sends the car to a place near the airport. While travelling in a city, driving a car is of much convenience, which means I can go everywhere at any time. I can make my trip more flexible.

02. Is there any inconvenience brought by the popularity of private cars in your city?

Unquestionably yes. Some of my friends who are living in small cities can never understand why I need to spend one and a half hours to go to work every day because my office is only around 20 kilometres away from my home. Every morning, I drive to work during rush hours and the traffic is extremely congested simply because there are too many private cars in my city. During rush hours, almost all roads in my city will be crowded with cars, buses, motorbikes or even bikes. Nowadays, in major cities of my country, the traffic congestion is the most severe convenience brought by the popularity of private cars.

03. Why do people living in the cities with highly-developed public transport still want to have their own private cars?

If we regard a private car as a vehicle, its really hard to explain why some people prefer to drive their private cars instead of taking a public transport. Obviously, taking a public transport in cities is much better than driving private cars since its more comfortable, reliable and economical. However, in modern society, a private car is much more than a kind of transport. To some extent, it stands for peoples lifestyle financial conditions and even social status. In my culture, many people especially businessmen believe that driving a limo can bring them more opportunities than an old car. Businessmen with limos are often regarded as successful ones with a relatively strong economic power and as a result they will be popular in their be usiness.

04. In your opinion, what kind of private vehicles will be the most popular in your city in the future?

That must be electric cars. As we all know, e-cars are much more environmentally friendly because they are totally powered by electricity and consequently have noexhaust fumes. With the increase of awareness of environmental protection, the public tend to contribute to protecting our environment. Additionally, using e-cars is more economical than driving traditional automobiles. In my city, the cost of driving an e-car for 1 kilometre is around 20 cents, much lower than the 80 cents of cars fueled by gasoline In the macroscopic aspect, our local government is creating some rules and laws to strictly limit the use of traditional private cars. For instance, some people predict that next year all traditional cars in my city will be only allowed to be used for 3 or 4 days a week. This kind of policy will greatly encourage more people to give up their gasoline-powered cars and buy e-cars.
