在含有虚拟条件句的复合句中，主句和从句的谓语都要用虚拟语气。虚拟条件从句和主句的动词形式列表如下:

我们重点来看if引导的从句如果是与现在的情况相反这种情况(表格的第一行)，此时条件从句中的动词统一用对应的过去式，主句中的动词则should/would/could/might+动词原形这种结构。我们来看两个单句：

1. 如果没有这次的新型冠状病毒病，我们将意识不到坚决不吃野味的重要性。

If there were no COVID-19, we would not realize the importance of not eating bush meat.

2. 动物实验被取消，人类将没有办法测试药品。

If animal testing were cancelled, man would have no way to test medicine.

Some people say that the best way to improve the public health is by increasing the number of sports facilities. Others, however, say that this would have little effect on public health and that other measures are required. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

[解释说明论证]Advocates of this believe that todays sedentary lifestyle and stressful working conditions mean that physical activity is no longer part of either our work or our leisure time. [虚拟假设论证] If there were easy-to-reach local sports centres, we would be more likely to make exercise a regular part of our lives, rather than just collapsing in front of a screen every evening. [虚拟假设论证] The variety of sports that could be offered would cater for all ages, levels of fitness and interests: those with painful memories of PE at school might be happier in the swimming pool than on the football pitch.
