I know it is a clich to discuss this, and just like a lot of kids, I read all 7 books of the series when I was in high school and watched the movies a million times. Did I learn how to wave a wand? Neville Longbottom, especially during the last grand fight with Voldemort, showed me how to step up even when he was not ready, and how to find a way to contribute when his peers appeared to be more talented. And finally, like many other readers, the most important concept I learnt from Lily and Snape was the meaning of unconditional love.
