剑桥雅思8在词汇考察上，非常重视单词和句子的近义替换;这个方面和其他雅思教材是一脉相承的。剑桥雅思8中22页的altitude zone 这个短语就是一个考点，如果你不知道 altitude这个单词的意思是：高度，海拔的话，那么这篇文章你有几个考题就做不对了。

文章的标题和首句是必须看的。但是这篇文章首句就很难，很多同学看到这个句子就绝望了。但是远远不用绝望，这个句子里所有的单词都是故事：archeological这个单词是在剑桥4里讲过的，全文都是讲archaeology ( 考古学)。 Archaeology变成形容词就是archaeological。

Long before，是剑桥7里的第21页的第10题。

Advent 这个单词在在剑桥2中的what is a port city里的都考过的，在第四段的第一句Sea ports have been transformed by the advent of powered vessels. 下一个生词co-ordinate在剑桥7的第77页的39题的答案里：Research is to be better co-ordinated throughout the Europe.

生词communal 是剑桥雅思5里，第121页的Eighteen rooms per floor with communal kitchens, lunges, bathrooms and toilets.(每次楼有18个房间，厨房，洗衣房，浴室，厕所公用)，这个communal的意思是1，for the use of all; shared 全体共用的 2， between different groups in a community (集体中的)各个小群体之间的。
